Camilia

Camilia is one of my favorite flowers, so elegant and beautiful. I pictured her at Fanling station park yesterday after lunch at Avon.

Sketch Ex: Drawing with dominant and non-dominant hands

Based on a photo of a Japanese artist, I sketched two versions: the one on the left was sketched with a dominant hand while the right with non-dominant hand. I found the right one has captured more personalities of the subject.

Sketching and Doodling: Joy and Peace

In the first place, I wanted to sketch my new teapot. Yet I found it a bit "plain"...

Inspired by the books Playing With Sketches and Creative Lettering, I decided to take a step further. I drew the teapot again. This time, I doodled some lovely images and applied water color on the teapot. I cut it out, re-arranged it making it look like a patten of teapots. Then I doodled the letters.

I used soft oil pastel (Portfolio) to create the shadows. I really love the effect of "burn marks" :)

Automation Drawing

This is Exercise 09 about automatic drawing. I found a junk mail and chose letter "o" as the connecting letter. Then I connected every "o" on the page by using various line formats such as straight line, curve line, dotted line, angled line... To take a step further, I tried out a new color palette from a tissue package. Though eventually I found out that the colours just did not speak to me, I discerned a figure from the pattern (with just one or two lines added) and drew an explorer admiring a cave of fanciful gems. A happy surprise!

Collage (Additive drawing): Let's Tea

This is Exercise 08 in Playing With Sketches. The background was made with English texts placed vertically instead of horizontally. It looks like the Chinese texts in Taiwanese books. I like it! I also like the little detail of the raised pinky and the blue dots which 'tie up' the two pages. The collage looks simple yet it took me about one and a half hours to complete it from scratch. Yet I enjoy the process.

Altering my journal covers and inside covers

This is my super journal where I put all my reflections and ideas etc inside. So I really want to make it lovely and functional. I used an exhibition poster as a wrapping paper. I muted the text and graphics with white acrylic (since I have used up my gesso). I want it to last long, so I also added a plastic wrap.

I also want to 'mute' and tidy up both the inside front and back covers.

I chose Dali's moustache cos I admire his creativity.

The journal covers so many themes that I need to have a two-tier label system! I love my handmade colorful labels!

Collage: Let's Stop Talking

When I am upset, I make artworks. When I don't know what to create, I take out my magazines and look for some interesting or inspiring images. Here is one I created when I felt that there was too much noise outside and inside my head. It did cheer me up!
